Use Of Face-mask Against COVID-19
As the world is facing a pandemic like never before and the only weapon we are left with is PREVENTION because there is no such found cure/medicine for this deadly virus COVID-19. Prevention includes protecting yourself and limiting your exposure to the virus that’s where face-masks and Personal Protective Equipment play a role.
Use of Face-mask In Public:
Face-masks are basically used to prevent the exposure of your Nose and Mouth from the outside Environment and limit the number of pathogens reaching your internal body. In these conditions like Corona, the face masks limit this virus to enter your body from any other person’s body if you interact with an already infected person.
What type of mask should be used? :
World Health Organization made it mandatory for everyone to wear a mask in a public gathering or where there are more than 5 persons present. Now the question is which mask should be used? There are different types of masks that are available in the market which include Surgical Masks, Cloth Masks, N-95 Masks. Now it depends on your profession and the circle you interact during this pandemic. For a normal average person, The masks available at a pharmaceutical shop which is 3 plie is enough. For health professional N-95 Masks are recommended because they are more vulnerable. Cloth masks are useless they do not stop any Pathogen thus you are exposed to COVID as if you are not wearing a mask.
What does N-95 stand for? As we know that the main purpose of using a face-mask is to protect ourselves from exposure to pathogens. N-95 means that this mask blocks 95% of the pathogens from reaching your body and thus limits your chances to be infected by most of the pathogens including COVID-19. Health personnel such as a Doctor or Paramedic staff is more exposed to pathogens in a hospital set up so it is recommended for them to use these masks.
Reuse of face-mask:
Once you have used a mask according to the standards you can not use it again and it should be disposed of because after one use it can be a reason for cross-contamination and it should not be used again no matter what mask you are using.
Do’s and Dont’s while wearing a mask:
While you wear a mask it is said not to touch the center part of the mask and only touch the side elastic suspenders/strings because your hands might be contaminated and thus transfer the pathogen from your hands to the mask and thus to your body. Try using a mask only one time and then properly dispose it off so that Cross-contamination could be prevented.
Stay Safe! May ALLAH protect us from this deadly virus. AMEEN!
